I’m enjoying my physiotherapist. The therapy is fine, but I’m particularly enjoying the conversation.
It was four years ago when I tripped over a buckled sidewalk while in Illinois helping my first born move back to Washington. The snapped collar bone healed fine, but I didn’t complete the physical therapy. It was bad timing; Heidi and I were in the process of moving to China. Plus, I was lazy.
Recently I decided to take on the residual stiffness and pain.
My physio is a 27 year old Thai. She is currently unattached and said, laughing, “There’s lots of time. Maybe when I’m 35 or 40.”
I was struck by the difference between Thai and Chinese culture on this issue. In China this woman’s parents would be starting to demand grandchildren. In Thailand this pressure didn’t seem to exist, at least for my physio. She said people in the countryside marry earlier, but it’s different in Bangkok.
Then we talked about the Justin Bieber concert coming to Bangkok. It sold out in 11 minutes. Apparently there were no limits on how many tickets an individual scalper could buy, and they weren’t available online, so you had to stand in line at one of the kiosks. The cheapest seats sold for 2,500 Baht at the window and are now selling for 20,000 online. The most expensive tickets retailed for 60,000, and scalpers have been trying for 37 million online. My physio said, “For that much money, Justin Bieber better come to my condo.”
For the record, she doesn’t have Bieber Fever, but she’d definitely buy tickets for Bruno Mars.
